1、 Composition
Casting pig iron mainly involves adding a certain amount of elements such as silicon, manganese, sulfur, and an appropriate amount of carbon to the iron. And ductile iron is mainly produced by adding elements such as magnesium and manganese to cast iron, thereby achieving the formation of spherical graphite.
2、 Mechanical performance
Cast pig iron has strong hardness and brittleness, with lower strength than ductile iron, but its wear resistance and cutting performance are better. And ductile iron has high strength, high toughness, good plasticity and reliability, and its wear resistance is significantly improved compared to cast pig iron, making it suitable for high-strength fields such as large machine tools and mechanical parts.
3、 Purpose:
Due to their different mechanical properties, the two types of pig iron materials also have different uses. Cast pig iron is suitable for producing lubricants, pipelines, shafts, light mechanical parts, etc; And ductile iron is suitable for high-strength fields, such as axle housings, petroleum machinery parts, high-pressure pipe fittings, etc.
4、 Craftsmanship
There are also differences in the production processes of cast pig iron and ductile iron. Casting pig iron requires processes such as starch modeling and sand casting; However, ductile iron requires spheroidization treatment, which involves adding molten metal to a specific material before casting, so that the graphite in the molten iron appears spherical, thereby improving its mechanical properties.
Overall, there are significant differences between cast pig iron and ductile iron in terms of composition, mechanical properties, applications, and production processes. In casting production, suitable materials need to be selected according to specific usage situations.
